Hello! I teach all ages from little children to silver citizens.
We focus on play and making things in our English class. We play all kinds of games and sports like hockey, Frisbee, soccer and baseball. We also make things, including arts and crafts, woodworking and cooking/baking. My classes have built a bed, a small house, cages and a go-cart in the past 4 years. Students learn how to use tools. In the kitchen, we use knives and we cook using the stove or the oven. We make bread, pizza, salads and chicken ham!
I speak mostly in English while building skills like listening, following directions, teamwork, physical coordination and strength.
We try to go outside whenever possible. Playing outside is very important for people of all ages because it builds strength and keeps our brains active. As we play, I try to repeat basic instructions to reinforce vocabulary for learners.
Another thing we enjoy in class is learning basic finance. All children should learn about money somewhere because it is not part of public education in Japan. I had to learn through trial and error, but that method is very expensive. I prefer to teach about money by using games and discussion. Of course, this is mostly done in English!

Elementary aged children learn to read and they have a dictionary that they can buy here.

Students aged from junior high until adults have more time devoted to speaking and listening.
Some classes use textbooks and some do not.
It all depends on how much people like to speak.
I'm genuinely interested in what is happening in my students' lives, so I like to hear from them.
We often talk about current events in Sendai and Japan.
Healthy living, education and slow aging are common themes in adult classes.
I won't use a textbook if everyone is speaking in English!
